Savage Arms® Announces New 400 Legend in Over a Dozen Models

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts – May 8, 2023 Savage Arms is proud to partner with Winchester® Ammunition to bring deer hunters several rifles chambered in 400 Legend in time for 2023 hunting seasons. The new hard-hitting, yet mildly recoiling, caliber means new opportunities for deer hunters across the country. Savage will launch the 400 Legend in the 110 Apex Hunter XP, 110 Hog Hunter and Axis II XP—but will also chamber it in another 11 models in 2023.

Straight-walled cartridges, and especially the 400 Legend’s predecessor the 350 Legend, were born for states like Ohio and Michigan. The premise being bring modern projectiles and cartridge technologies to areas, states and hunters originally limited to shotgun slug or historically limited rifle caliber options. Due to the popularity of these cartridges that has been driven by performance—straight-wall options have gained traction outside of traditional shotgun slug areas as well. The 400 Legend will no doubt continue this legacy and Savage has responded by adding it to so many rifles in its lineup.

"Savage is dedicated to chambering the best calibers for hunters and shooters," said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing at Savage Arms. "The 400 Legend brings ballistic advances and advantages--and when combined with our extensive rifle lineup--the benefits only increase. Deer hunters are in for a treat this fall as we'll have 14 options available in plenty of time for this season."

The numbers behind the 400 Legend are impressive. This straight-walled cartridge offers 100% more energy than a 12 gauge slug with 55% less felt recoil. When compared to its rifle counterparts and predecessors, the 400 Legend brings the same amount of energy as the 450 Bushmaster, with a reduction in felt recoil of 20%. Finally—the 400 Legend offers 25% more energy than the 350 Legend for more penetration and improved terminal ballistics.

More information on the full lineup of Savage rifles chambered in 400 Legend, as well as when they will be available, can be found at www.savagearms.com. Those interested in learning more about the cartridge, its development and the full story behind it all, can go to www.winchester.com

Savage Arms® Announces New Film “Aldo Leopold | Serve the Land”

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts – April 27, 2023 Savage Arms proudly announces “Aldo Leopold | Serve the Land” which debuted exclusively on Carbon TV on April 26, 2023 and is now available on Savage’s website. This complete film breaks down the impact, importance and of course, legacy, of Leopold. Viewers will learn why he was such an influential person in the history of wildlife conservation in North America and also discover a direct tie Savage Arms had to Leopold.

Many people know Leopold as a pioneer in wildlife conservation and are familiar with his life story and major accomplishments. Leopold’s collection of essays “A Sand County Almanac” is iconic in many conservation, environmental and hunting communities. With more than two million copies sold, it is one of the most respected books about the environment ever published and is a driving force behind Leopold being regarded as the most influential mind in conservation in the 20th century.

“Aldo Leopold’s name, story and many of his accomplishments are well-known within the hunting community,” said Megan Harten, Marketing Manager at Savage Arms. “But this film highlights specific stories and paramount events with great detail. Our partners on this project present information and unparalleled knowledge that will allow even the most dedicated followers or studiers of Leopold to learn something new. We’re proud of this film and look forward to hearing how viewers gained new perspective and appreciation for the work of a great man, conservationist and hunter.”

Leopold, like many who truly make a difference in their field, fully dedicated himself to conservation. In 1928 he believed wildlife conservation was so flawed, he quit his high-paying, comfortable job at the Forest Service to pursue, develop and implement his progressive thoughts on the topic. At the time he had five children and the country was about to enter The Great Depression.

Leopold’s urge to step out and make a difference was fueled by the initial reasoning that wildlife conservation was not sufficiently achieved by wildlife protection—it required active management. This meant that having Game Wardens enforce laws was not enough, and that effective wildlife conservation required wildlife managers.

After Leopold left the Forest Service, he was unemployed and needed to find a path to dedicate his career to wildlife conservation. In 1928, he was fortunate enough to land a contractor position with an influential trade group, The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI). Savage Arms was a member of his organization, so interestingly enough Savage was a direct supporter of Leopold in one of the most influential periods of his life. Leopold would go on to collect data, implement programs and models and be a driving force in conservation that still shapes policies and practices today.

Savage would like to thank the following to help make this film:

Stan Temple

Stan is the Beers-Bascom Professor Emeritus in Conservation in the Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology and former Chairman of the Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development Program in the Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at UW–Madison. For 32 years he held the academic position once occupied by Aldo Leopold. He is currently a Senior Fellow with the Aldo Leopold Foundation

The Aldo Leopold Foundation

Established in 1982 by the five children of Aldo Leopold and his wife Estella, we are a conservation organization that works to inspire an ethical relationship between people and nature through Leopold’s legacy. This vision of a “land ethic” was not meant to be rigid or dogmatic; instead, Leopold intended for it to evolve continually through personal reflection, open dialogue, and people’s actions on the land and in their communities. We invite you to join us as we work to weave a land ethic into society and encourage its unfolding in myriad of ways.

Savage Arms® Celebrates Awards, Anniversaries and New Products at 2023 NRA Annual Meeting

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts – April 12, 2023 Savage Arms will display at the 152nd Annual NRA Meetings & Exhibits in Indianapolis, Indiana from April 14-16. In addition to showcasing several new products in booth #6255, the company will also be honored with two Golden Bullseye awards and continue to showcase the AccuTrigger in its 20th year on the market.

Savage Arms will have plenty for all attendees to see and learn more about—with everything from first-look new firearms to some of the most popular in the historic firearm manufacturer’s lineup. Hunters, competitive shooters, plinkers and those looking for their next self-defense firearm will all share an interest in the Savage booth this year. Many of the Savage Models in the booth will also feature the revolutionary AccuTrigger, which turned 20 in 2023.

“We’re excited about our lineup and the fact that we’re debuting a new firearm at the show,” said Beth Shimanski, Director of Marketing at Savage Arms. “NRA members are getting a first look at a product we think is going to be a top-seller in 2023. Attendees are also going to be able to see some of our latest products that have redefined Savage—including the Savage 1911. We will also have plenty of rifles featuring our iconic AccuTrigger which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Finally, we’re taking home two Golden Bullseyes, so this is another huge show for us.”

The Savage 110 PCS was bestowed with American Hunter’s 2023 Pistol of the Year Award earlier in 2023 and will be officially recognized at the award ceremony Friday morning. Savage will also receive the hardware for its 2023 Shotgun of the Year from Shooting Illustrated when the Renegauge Security is recognized at the event. Both awards and the firearms that earned them show Savage’s dedication to expanding to new categories with products customers want—and that still perform at the highest levels.

Attendees are encouraged to carve out time at the busy show to stop by Savage’s booth. With several proven and popular models there to see first-hand, it’s a can’t miss. But Savage also saved a product to debut at the show for the first time, so the incentive to make it to booth #6255 is even higher.

For information on the full Savage lineup, NRA Annual Meeting attendees can stop by the booth. Others are encouraged to visit the website and stay tuned to Savage social channels.
