National Deer Association Seeks Deer Outreach Specialist in north Missouri

April 11, 2023 – The National Deer Association (NDA) is seeking a qualified, self-motivated and outgoing individual to serve as a Deer Outreach Specialist in northern Missouri.

 

The ideal candidate should reside in northern Missouri. Otherwise, location is remote. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include competitive health insurance, vacation, retirement, paid holidays, and flexible working arrangements. This position reports to NDA’s Director of Conservation.

 

Position Description:

  • Educate landowners and assist Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) staff with facilitation of the Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) in northern Missouri.

  • Provide guidance to landowners on conducting deer population surveys or other data collection efforts to meet DMAP enrollment requirements.

  • Work with private landowners to establish and support wildlife management cooperatives in northern Missouri.

  • Conduct habitat management trainings for private landowners and help coordinate private land assistance programs with MDC staff.

  • Coordinate and assist with Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) sampling trainings for landowners and deer hunters in northern Missouri.

  • Promote hunter recruitment (R3) and mentoring initiatives from both NDA and MDC.

  • Participate in projects to promote wildlife conservation, conservation education and Missouri’s hunting heritage.

  • Increase awareness of NDA by recruiting new members and sponsors.

  • Promote both NDA’s programs and conservation partner programs.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife or related natural resource field.

  • Experience and working knowledge of deer hunting, deer management, and habitat management.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to engage and relate with hunters, landowners and land managers.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate educational events.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills.

  • Sound computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

  • Willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain close working relationship with MDC Private Land Conservationists and Private Lands Deer Biologist.  Provide monthly and annual updates on current activities and attend regional staff meetings whenever possible.

  • Assist with enrolling interested parties into DMAP.

  • Develop landowner cooperative newsletter for distribution at least four times per year.

  • Conduct annual statewide survey for cooperative participants.

  • Organize meetings on-demand for wildlife management cooperative leaders and conservation partners.

  • Host and assist with NDA R3/Field to Fork events annually.

  • Maintain close working relationship with other state and national NDA employees.

National Deer Association Seeks Regional Directors for Midwest and South

April 5, 2023 – The National Deer Association (NDA) is seeking two full-time Regional Directors in its Midwest and South regions. NDA’s Regional Directors work closely with volunteer-led Branches to plan and implement successful fundraising and conservation-related events to help drive the non-profit mission of the National Deer Association.  

 

The ideal candidate for the Midwest and South position should reside in the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States, respectively. Otherwise, location is remote. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include competitive health insurance, vacation, retirement, paid holidays and flexible working arrangements. These positions report to NDA’s Director of Grassroots Support.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Effectively start and maintain mission-driven NDA Branches in territory.

  • Work closely with NDA Branches to plan, organize, and conduct successful fundraising and mission events with the goal of increasing net profits and mission success in territory.

  • Manage volunteer efforts in support of NDA’s mission.

  • Facilitate paperwork / reporting requirements as directed by the NDA national office to ensure organizational efficiency and federal compliance.

  • Submit news items about NDA Branches from your territory to appropriate NDA communications staff.

  • Assist in planning / implementation of volunteer workshops and/or volunteer awards recognition program.

  • Represent NDA at key meetings and functions.

  • Ability to balance travel with use of technology (Zoom, etc.) to facilitate efficient use of time and organizational resources.

  • Assist NDA national office with operational matters as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience working with volunteers and/or fundraising preferred.

  • Appreciation for and working knowledge of conservation, deer hunting, and habitat management preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. 

  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills.

  • Sound computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

National Deer Association Welcomes Spring Interns

February 8, 2023 – The National Deer Association (NDA) recently welcomed two new interns to join in the organization’s efforts for the first half of 2023. Adrianna Mowrer and Ryan Forster will work closely with the NDA staff in a variety of areas to support and continue NDA’s mission. Both individuals bring a unique skillset and diverse backgrounds that align directly with the NDA as an organization. 

 

“This is a really exciting time as we welcome these new interns to the team and we are looking forward to everything they bring to the table,” said NDA Chief Conservation Officer Kip Adams. “Each of these applicants offers a unique skillset and a variety of experience that will be a huge asset to our organization. These are extremely bright individuals that are driven and passionate to do great work and we look forward to their involvement with NDA.”

 

Adrianna Mowrer holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Pennsylvania State University with additional specialized courses focusing on wildlife disease ecology and laboratory research. Mowrer currently serves as an APHIS – USDA Biological Science Wildlife Technician for the National Feral Swine Damage Management Program. Other experience includes an Emergency Response Bravo Deployment to Puerto Rico with the USDA as well time in the Penn State Deer Research Program with the Pennsylvania Cooperatives Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.

 

Ryan Forster will graduate this spring from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology. Forster offers a variety of work and volunteer experience relevant to the outdoor space, including time with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. His experience includes time working directly with CWD check stations where he worked in data collection from harvested deer as well as sample collection.

 

Mowrer and Forster will serve as NDA interns from January 1 through June 31, 2023. Future internship opportunities with NDA will be posted on the Employment Page, and are offered in six-month rotations.
